OhioHealth, based in Columbus, is expanding its smart room technology to Doctors Hospital as part of a broader effort to improve patient care and streamline hospital operations.

The initiative builds on the 2023 launch of smart rooms at OhioHealth Pickerington Methodist Hospital. As part of the next phase, 26 smart rooms will be installed in the hospital’s cardiovascular unit, according to a July 25 news release.

The rooms are equipped with smart TVs and digital door signs developed through partnerships with eVideon and Caregility. The door signs feature color-coded indicators to display real-time patient information, such as fall risk status. Inside, smart TVs offer patients access to a virtual nurse, care plans, medication schedules, dietary guidelines and educational content. Patients can also use the system to make video calls, watch entertainment, and access translation services.

The project is a cross-departmental effort involving teams from user experience, information technology, informatics, clinical operations and support services.

OhioHealth said in the release that the smart room expansion is part of its long-term strategy to integrate innovative technologies across its facilities.
