Here are three things to know about recent health IT and digital health VC funding.
1. Approximately 194 deals took place in the health IT and digital health sectors during the second quarter, totaling $2.4 billion in VC funding. The amount represents a 47 percent increase from the 165 deals comprising $1.6 billion during the first quarter of 2017.
2. Total funding for health IT companies in the first half of 2017 reached a record $4 billion among 359 deals, up 36 percent from $3 billion among 286 deals in the first half of 2016.
3. The top five health IT funding categories during the first half of 2017 were:
- Patient engagement: $684 million
- Data analytics: $458 million
- mHealth apps: $399 million
- Booking: $391 million
- Telemedicine: $297 million
