Data breach at Iowa hospital affects 1,620

Waterloo, Iowa-based UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital has informed approximately 1,620 patients of a data breach, according to The Associated Press.

The breach was detected on March 14. But when officials looked further into the situation, they found a former employee accessed patient information — including names, addresses, some Social Security numbers, treatment records and health insurance information — from September 2009 to March of this year.

There have not been any identity theft reports related to the incident. UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital reported the breach to HHS.
