The emojis represent females in a variety of different professions — physician, scientist, construction worker, businesswoman, surgeon and farmer, to name a few.
The Google designers said their inspiration came from a recent op-ed in The New York Times titled “Emoji Feminism,” which asks, “How was there space for both a bento box and a single fried coconut shrimp, and yet women were restricted to a smattering of tired, beauty-centric roles?”
Currently, a number of emojis depict men in various professions, including police officer and detective.
The new emojis are currently waiting for approval from the Unicode Consortium, which approves all emojis.
