Five Eyes cybersecurity agencies issued a joint warning June 22 that advances in AI are rapidly transforming cyber threats and creating new urgency for organizations to strengthen cyber resilience.
In a statement released by the cybersecurity leaders of the Five Eyes alliance, which includes the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, the agencies said frontier AI models are expected to surpass current industry expectations and significantly change both offensive and defensive cyber capabilities in the near term.
The statement warns that AI is lowering barriers for malicious actors while increasing the speed, scale and sophistication of cyberattacks. As a result, organizations face a shrinking window between the discovery of vulnerabilities and their exploitation.
The Five Eyes agencies called on business leaders to treat cybersecurity as a core business risk rather than a purely technical issue. The statement urges executives and boards to assess cyber risk and readiness, prioritize foundational security controls, empower cybersecurity leaders, and remain engaged as threats evolve.
The agencies also encouraged organizations to adopt AI as a defensive tool.
