Anderson, S.C.-based AnMed is warning patients to be cautious of electronic messages during its ongoing cybersecurity incident.
In a notice issued July 30, AnMed said some patients may be receiving communications, including MyChart appointment reminders, that appear to come from AnMed but were generated outside its internal systems during its incident response.
AnMed said certain appointment reminders may continue to arrive by text message and stressed that patients are not required to confirm appointments electronically at this time.
AnMed said it has no evidence that patients have been targeted with malicious intent as a result of the incident, but it is encouraging patients and community members to remain cautious with electronic messages that appear to originate from the system. Open locations continue providing care according to scheduled appointments, and electronic confirmation is not required.
Federal, state and third-party investigations into the incident, which began July 26 with a malware disruption that led to widespread closures of clinics and imaging locations, remain ongoing.
