Anderson, S.C.-based AnMed is experiencing a cybersecurity disruption involving malware that forced the closure of dozens of clinics and imaging locations across its network Monday.
The four-hospital system said it is working with third-party cybersecurity specialists and state and federal authorities to investigate the scope of the incident and restore systems to full functionality. AnMed said decisions on procedures, patient transfers and diversions are being guided by patient safety.
AnMed Medical Group offices and AnMed Imaging Services closed systemwide Monday. Patients with scheduled elective procedures are being contacted directly by AnMed staff. Emergency departments at AnMed’s Medical Center, Cannon (Pickens) and Piedmont campuses remain open, as do AnMed Urgent Care, AnMed Kids Care, AnMed Integrated Therapy and AnMed Laboratory Services locations.
AnMed said it is coordinating with regional hospitals, emergency medical services and public safety partners to ensure patients continue receiving care in appropriate settings. The system did not disclose whether the malware incident involved ransomware or data exfiltration, or when normal operations are expected to resume.
