Consumer eHealth Chief to Leave ONC

Lygeia Ricciardi, the head of the ONC's Consumer eHealth Program and Office, will resign her position effective July 25.

Ms. Ricciardi was one of the main advocates of the Blue Button initiative, an ONC-promoted standard to give patients easier access to their medical records.

"Under Lygeia's leadership, ONC and the communities we serve have articulated a shared vision in which the consumer, patient or caregiver, enabled by information and tools, can participate more fully as a partner in both their own healthcare and health," wrote National Coordinator Karen DeSalvo, MD, in an email announcement to staff. "By collaborating with HHS leadership, news outlets and many other thought leaders, ONC has worked to put consumer e-Health 'on the map' for healthcare and technology leaders and, increasingly, the general public."

Erin Siminerio, a policy analyst in the Consumer eHealth Program and Office, will serve as the office's point of contact until a replacement for Ms. Ricciardi is found.
