The new deadline is a month after the previously stated deadline of Feb. 28, 2014. In addition to the extension, CMS is offering assistance to hospitals that may have trouble meeting the new deadline to help them avoid penalties in 2015.

“We are seeing extraordinary interest from health care providers participating in the EHR Incentive Programs, and to help ensure all eligible healthcare providers are able to receive their incentive payments, we are extending the attestation deadline for the Medicare EHR Incentive Program by one month for professionals,” said a CMS spokesperson. “Additionally, hospitals that may have missed their reporting deadline have an opportunity to submit their attestation retroactively.”
