CIO Michael Smith: A leader who drives change

Michael Smith has served as CIO of Fort Myers, Fla.-based Lee Memorial Health System since 1997.

As CIO, Mr. Smith oversees the system’s information systems and technologies across all delivery settings, including telecommunications, health information management, biomedical engineering and diagnostic technology strategies.

In 2013, Information Week named Mr. Smith as one of 20 health IT leaders who are driving change.

Mr. Smith recently oversaw the implementation of an online patient portal and patient portal app.

Before joining LMHS, Mr. Smith held various IT leadership positions at Dallas-based Baylor Healthcare System and was vice president of operations for National Data Communications, a healthcare information system also based in Dallas.
