The Web-based Diabetes Record is the first of its kind in Canada, focusing on the needs and metrics for diabetic patients, according to the report.

Web DR can be used by primary and tertiary diabetes specialists, medical students, administrative staff and allied health professionals at three facilities within the St. Joseph’s Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism. All team members can access each patient’s diabetes-specific EMR, allowing for care coordination across the care spectrum, according to the report.

The EMR was built by an external vendor and is linked to the hospital’s general EMR system. Other hospitals in the region have expressed interest in Web DR, and talks of expanding the system are underway, according to the report.
