Backpack Found Containing Compromised Connecticut Health Exchange Patient Data

Access Health CT, Connecticut's state health insurance marketplace, has announced a potential data breach after a backpack containing patient information for approximately 400 people was found outside a deli, according to a Hartford Courant report.

The backpack appears to belong to an employee of Maximus, the exchange's call-center vendor, according to the report. The backpack contained four notepads with names, Social Security numbers and birth dates.

The employee has been placed on administrative leave until the police investigation is complete, according to the report. Ilene Baylinson, president of the eastern region for Maximus, said in the report the employee has been entirely cooperative with the investigation, and there is currently no reason to believe the patient information was misused for fraudulent purposes.
