The two organizations are aiming to create a solution that integrates with a primary care physician’s EHR system. The point-of-care solution might summarize cognitive insights about a patient’s health status and describe the outcomes of similar people under various treatment options.

“Armed with comprehensive information about the individual and insights about the outcomes of similar people, physicians will be in a better position to personalize the care plan for each person,” said Paul Tang, MD, vice president and chief health transformation officer for IBM Watson Health.

Along with clinical decision support, Atrius Health and IBM Watson Health hope Watson Cognitive Insights will be able to encourage shared decision-making between physicians and their patients.
