athenahealth net loss hits $1.4M in Q1

Watertown, Mass.-based athenahealth released its 2017 first quarter financial results April 27.

Here are four things to know.

1. The company reported first quarter revenue of $285.4 million, marking an 11 percent increase from $256.1 million in the first quarter of 2016.

2. Athenahealth posted $1.1 million in operating earnings for the first quarter of 2017, representing 0.4 percent of total revenue. In the first quarter of 2016, the company’s operating earnings sat at $300,000.

3. In the first quarter of 2017, athenahealth reported a net loss of $1.4 million, or a loss of $0.03 per diluted share. In the same quarter a year prior, the company’s net loss was $800,000.

4. The company opted to adjust its full-year revenue projections based on its 2017 first quarter performance.

Athenahealth now expects its total revenue to sit between $1.21 billion and $1.25 billion for 2017, compared to the $1.29 billion to $1.33 billion range it projected after releasing its 2016 full-year financial results in February.
