The hospital is switching from MEDITECH’s platform after nearly one decade.
The 25-bed hospital is partnering with Denver-based University of Colorado Health to assist with the implementation. Dan Bonk, CEO of Aspen Valley Hospital, said his hospital on its own isn’t big enough to “attract Epic’s interest,” according to the report. UCHealth will use its Epic license to install the EHR at Aspen Valley Hospital. “You could call it piggybacking,” Mr. Bonk told Aspen Times.
Mr. Bonk did not disclose to Aspen Times what the implementation project will cost, but suggested the costs would be minimal to other large-scale implementations given Aspen Valley’s size. According to the report, Mr. Bonk was president of Summit Hospital in Waukesha, Wis., part of Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care, when the system underwent an enterprisewide Epic installation costing $200 million for 15 hospitals and more than 100 clinics. “Obviously, we’ll be nowhere near that here,” Mr. Bonk said.
