The Senate Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee passed the bill, which changes the requirements for receiving care via telecommunications. The 2015 bill required providers establish a professional relationship with a patient by meeting with them in person or through audio and visual technology, however, the patient must be at an “originating site.” The site had to be a licensed healthcare facility.
The new legislation stipulates that the “originating site is defined as wherever the patient is at the time,” according to the report. After the provider-patient relationship has been established, providers can use any type of telemedicine service to treat patients.
