Telehealth provider American Well has released a new telehealth app for healthcare providers, allowing physicians to be in control of when and where they offer video consultations.

The Boston-based company unveiled its new product at the 20th Annual Telemedicine Meeting & Trade Show in Los Angeles. Called AW8, the new app seeks to allow physicians to take full advantage of telehealth by integrating it into their daily practices instead of the patient always being the party to initiate a video consultation.

“It allows physicians to reach their patients in the home setting or engage other providers where collaborative care is required,” said Roy Schoenberg, MD, CEO of American Well. “It allows physicians to use modern technology, instead of costly office visits, to envelop their patients.”

Providers can also use the app to schedule appointments, review records, prescribe medication, collect payments, submit claims and keep records.
