Amazon acquires Wi-Fi device maker Eero for better connected smart home devices

Amazon entered into an agreement to acquire Eero, a Wi-Fi home router developer.

Eero aims to provide high-performing and secure home Wi-Fi by using multiple access points to work together as a system throughout the home.

"We are incredibly impressed with the Eero team and how quickly they invented a Wi-Fi solution that makes connected devices just work," Dave Limp, senior vice president of Amazon devices and services, said in a news release. "We have a shared vision that the smart home experience can get even easier, and we're committed to continue innovating on behalf of customers."

In recent months, major technology companies have started to pivot their smart home devices to have applications for healthcare. For example, Amazon recently filed a patent for its virtual voice assistant, Alexa, aimed at detecting whether a user is sick and selling medicine in response, and Google home automation business Nest is reportedly exploring a product line to help seniors live independently longer.
