All Colorado Hospitals With 100 or More Beds Now Part of an HIE

072213corhioThe Colorado Regional Health Information Organization has announced that all hospitals in the state with 100 or more beds are currently connected to, or are in the process of connecting to, a health information exchange.

The announcement follows Denver-based Exempla Healthcare, which operates three hospitals in the state, signing a contract to join the CORHIO HIE.

Larry Wolk, MD, CEO of CORHIO, praised the milestone in the news release: "Allowing clinical information to be shared among all of a patient's healthcare providers, regardless of their affiliation, allows for the elimination of unnecessary, duplicative testing as well as a reduction in avoidable hospital readmissions, making the process of getting good healthcare much less cumbersome. Health information exchange is helping to solve these critical, system-wide challenges."
