York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health has unveiled a full-service, AI-powered robotic kitchen at its York hospital.
The Fresh Take Eatery offers 24/7, on-demand food service, effectively doubling dining capacity during peak periods. The robots store and retrieve ingredients, cook, plate and serve meals, and self-clean. The 400-square-foot kitchen uses the same local ingredients as the hospital’s cafeteria, while WellSpan dietitians help with menu development.
“At WellSpan, our commitment to adopting new innovative approaches stretches beyond clinical care to benefit our visitor and team member experience,” WellSpan President and CEO Roxanna Gapstur, PhD, RN, said in a March 9 news release. “The launch of Fresh Take Eatery exemplifies our human-centered approach to solving operational challenges.”
It marks tech startup RoboEatz’s first deployment of an autonomous robotic kitchen in a healthcare setting. WellSpan is an investor in the company.
