Anthropic rolls out Claude for Healthcare: 7 notes

Anthropic has launched Claude for Healthcare, the latest generative AI company to customize its offerings for specific healthcare use cases across providers, payers and biotech.

The AI startup, which is reportedly valued at $350 billion, rolled out the platform Jan. 11. Here are seven things to know:

1. Anthropic said the HIPAA-compliant tools can “speed up prior authorization requests so that patients can get life-saving care more quickly, can help with patient care coordination to reduce the pressures on clinicians’ time, and help with regulatory submissions so that more life-saving drugs can come to market faster,” according to a news release.

2. Claude now connects to CMS’ coverage database, ICD-10 codes and the National Provider Identifier Registry, and has added skills including Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources, or FHIR, development and patient message triage.

3. For prior authorizations, the chatbot can “pull coverage requirements from CMS or custom policies, check clinical criteria against patient records in a HIPAA-ready manner, and then propose a determination with supporting materials for the payer’s review.” The tool can also help with claims appeals by surfacing the necessary information from clinical guidelines, coverage policies, patient records and prior documentation.

4. In addition, consumers can securely upload lab results and medical records to Claude, the company said. “When connected, Claude can summarize users’ medical history, explain test results in plain language, detect patterns across fitness and health metrics, and prepare questions for appointments,” Anthropic stated. “The aim is to make patients’ conversations with doctors more productive, and to help users stay well-informed about their health.”

5. Phoenix-based Banner Health recently leveraged Claude to create AI platform BannerWise, which was offered to the health system’s 55,000-plus employees across six states in late 2025. Use cases include document analysis and summarization, content creation, and development support with code optimization.

6. Anthropic also expanded its Claude for Life Sciences platform to help organizations draft clinical trial protocols, operate clinical trials and prepare regulatory submissions.

7. The company’s announcement follows competitor OpenAI unveiling ChatGPT Health and OpenAI for Healthcare the week prior, with industry observers wondering if Google is next.
