AI salaries are on the rise, as some new college graduates with expertise in the technology are making $1 million a year, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Nonmanagerial workers in AI with zero to three years of experience had their base salaries increase about 12% from 2024 to 2025, the biggest gain of any experience group, per data from AI staffing firm Burtch Work cited in the Aug. 26 story.

Generative-AI research scientists with as little as two years’ experience are making annual base salaries between $190,000 and $260,000 at Databricks, while machine-learning engineers with zero to a year of experience are earning over $200,000 at Roblox and fresh-out-of-school workers at Scale AI are pulling down about $200,000, the Journal reported.

“We’re eager to hire AI-native professionals, and many of those candidates are early in their careers,” Scale AI Head of People Ashli Shiftan told the newspaper.

Health systems often can’t compete with tech companies on salaries for AI specialists, outsourcing the work to vendors, Becker’s has reported.
