More than 1,000 medical students responded to athenahealth's 10th annual Epocrates Future Physicians of America survey.
The survey polls medical students on their opinion of training, technology and industry challenges. Here are five points on patient record sharing from the survey.
• 96 percent of respondents believe improving the ability of EHRs to access patient data from other systems is important to patient care
• 87 percent of students support the creation of a universal patient record
• The majority of respondents think fragmented care is the top safety risk for patients today
• 44 percent of respondents are concerned about the ability to easily share patient data within a hospital or practice
• 73 percent of respondents are worried about the ability to share patient information across unaffiliated practices
