83% of Americans have a positive attitude about virtual reality

Recent findings from ReportLinker show 83 percent of Americans feel positively about virtual reality, as opposed to 68 percent in September 2016.

ReportLinker’s most recent survey included 738 online respondents between Dec. 30, 2016 and Jan. 2, 2017. ReportLinker’s fall survey was conducted between Sept. 20 and Sept. 21, 2016, and included 625 online respondents.

Here are four additional findings from the surveys.

1. The number of Americans who said they’re very familiar with VR technology increased between September and now. In September, 16 percent of Americans said they were very familiar with VR. In the most recent survey, 31 percent of Americans said they’re very familiar with VR.

2. The number of Americans who had heard of VR but could not explain it did not dramatically change. In September, 58 percent of Americans said they’d heard of VR but couldn’t explain it. According to the most recent survey, 57 percent of Americans said they’d heard of VR but couldn’t explain it.

3. The number of Americans who said they’d never heard of VR decreased between the surveys. Twenty-six percent of Americans in September said they’d never heard of VR, compared to 12 percent of Americans in the most recent survey.

4. The most well-known VR device among respondents was Samsung’s Gear. Fifty-eight percent of Americans said they’d heard of the device. Other well-known devices included Google Cardboard (32 percent) and the Oculus Rift (31 percent).
