8 health, tech companies get failing grades on gender, race pay equity

Citigroup was the only company to receive an “A” on the Arjuna Capital/Proxy Impact report, which ranked 46 of the world’s largest companies on gender and racial pay equity. Most of the companies — 23 — earned “F” ratings.

Within the technology sector, Apple and Intel received the highest markings, with “B” grades. Three of the 12 companies, Oracle, Hewlett Packard and Analog Devices, failed.

Pfizer was given a “B” for a commitment to report global gender pay and U.S. racial pay in 2019. Five of the other six healthcare companies scored “F” grades: Cigna, DaVita, Healthcare Partners, IDEXX Laboratories, Intuitive Surgical and Quest Diagnostics.

The grades were determined by companies’ quantitative pay disclosure, commitments to report pay gap numbers annually, global coverage and goals.
