Accenture Technology Vision outlined five emerging technology trends that are shaping the healthcare industry in 2015.
1. “The Internet of Me” — Healthcare is becoming increasingly personalized, not
just in patient engagement and involvement, but also in clinical advancements like the practice of genomics are tailoring health treatments to each individual person. And, with the advent and growth of wearable technologies, individuals readily have access to certain health data and tools to steer their own care.
2. Outcome economy — Technology is geared now toward getting results, not just getting ahead of the game. Clinicians are using technology to track patients’ recovery, and it allows them to react if something goes awry.
3. The Platform (R)evolution — Health technology platforms are broader and more capable than they were before. Cloud computing and mobile health opened the doors to a whole new way of delivering care, as individuals can check their health records on the go, and health data is accessible to numerous providers as it is hosted in the cloud. In the future, “care will be ubiquitous, as technology can bridge any distance,” according to the report.
4. Intelligent enterprise — Software is no longer a static tool; instead, it is becoming dynamic and is able to contribute to actively propel discovery and innovation. Platforms are now able to think on their own and contribute to discussions, with capabilities such as clinical decision support.
5. Workforce reimagined — Machines and technology are going to become an integral part of the healthcare workforce. “Advances in robotics enable machines to communicate with humans, and also work side-by-side with them. Technology is augmenting human work and improving the effectiveness of healthcare,” according to the report.
