33% of Providers Face Budget, Technology Issues With HIT Use

Budgetary and technology barriers prevent 33 percent of providers from utilizing health information technology to meet meaningful use requirements, according to an IVANS news release.

IVANS, a national vendor of health information exchanges, conducted a survey of 700 healthcare providers in January 2012. Key findings include:

•    Thirty-nine percent of healthcare providers surveyed have no plans to implement stage one of meaningful use;
•    Twenty-six percent of providers are eligible for EHR incentives but still have no plans for implementing stage one of meaningful use;
•    Thirty-two percent of providers surveyed said budgetary concerns are their biggest challenges;
•    Twenty-one percent of providers said the biggest challenge was technology requirements.
