31% of CIOs bypassed when it comes to IT purchasing decisions

The third annual Global CIO Survey from Logicalis U.S. has found nearly a third of CIOs are regularly bypassed by line-of-business executives when it comes time to make IT purchasing decisions, according to an Executive Insight report.

Though this happens routinely to just 31 percent of CIOs, 90 percent of CIOs report being bypassed on purchasing decision making at least some of the time. Here are four other key statistics from the survey:

•    66 percent of CIOs make more than half of their organization’s IT purchasing decisions
•    47 percent of CIOs are acquiring at least 30 percent of IT services from external service providers
•    42 percent of CIOs spend nearly half of their time developing an internal service provider model
•    38 percent of CIOs are spending at least half of their time on more strategic initiatives
