The new contract takes effect immediately, according to a news release.

Representatives from Sarasota Memorial and WellCare of Florida said in the release that they are pleased with the agreement.

Sarasota Memorial president and CEO David Verinder said in the release, “Because Sarasota Memorial treats nearly 90 percent of Sarasota County’s Medicaid patients requiring hospital care, we see this as a positive outcome for us, for WellCare and most importantly, for the thousands of Medicaid recipients throughout the region.”

WellCare of Florida’s Medicaid members have had the option of in-network coverage at the hospital since the late 1990s.
