The nonpartisan research and education organization issues an annual study of the financial well-being of Virginia hospitals. The institute studied financial numbers posted on the Virginia Health Information website for fiscal year 2015 and compared them with previous years.
The institute found between 2014 and 2015, the number of hospitals operating at a deficit decreased by 20 percent. Since 2012, the number of hospitals running a deficit dropped by 35 percent, from 42 to 27.
In addition, hospitals’ net worth rose from $14.75 billion to $17.8 billion since 2012, according to the study.
