U.K. Hospitals Test Digital Pens to Improve Revenue Cycle Tasks

Hospitals in the United Kingdom are analyzing and testing the efficacy of digital pens, which are able to convert handwriting into computer text, to improve their administrative tasks, according to a Lincolnite report.

Patients would write and sign on digitized forms, retain the paper copy and return the pen at their convenience.

The report said trials of the digital pens have saved hospital staff members an average of two minutes per patient per month. Extrapolated for a month with 5,000 patients served, and staff could save roughly 167 hours per month.
