The secret sauce to a high-performing revenue cycle

Houston-based MD Anderson University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Columbus-based OhioHealth are consistent winners of the Healthcare Financial Management Association's MAP award. Revenue cycle leaders shared with Becker's a common thread to their success: their people.

"We've got the right team members in the right seats and we're all driving in a very defined direction of improvement," MD Anderson Vice President of Revenue Cycle and Treasurer Brad Gibson said. "What we try to do is balance our patients and our employees. [That balance] is necessary to maintain our high engagement. MD Anderson goes through a process of measuring the engagement of our workforce and I am blessed to have such great people who are part of our success."

OhioHealth's system vice president of revenue cycle, Girish Dighe, PharmD, said success comes back to people. He said his team members are able to be thought leaders and push themselves to think how they can do something differently.

"One of my big pet peeves is complacency," Dr. Dighe said. "In order to win multiple awards, you can't get complacent; you have to think about what's next. And it really takes some risk. Our people are able to think that way, to be able to say 'what if' and then be able to think about how we can test and pilot and about what's going to make the most sense for the consumer and our partners."
