State wants more details about Pennsylvania hospital closure plan

The Pennsylvania Department of Health did not approve the initial closure plan provided by the owner of Berwick (Pa.) Hospital Center, according to a July 29 report from Newswatch 16

The required 90-day closure notice was submitted on July 15, according to the report.

Pennsylvania Department of Health Press Secretary Mark O'Neill said the facility's initial plan lacked necessary information to provide for an orderly wind-down of acute care services.

"The hospital has been directed to resubmit a more complete plan which includes a comprehensive approach to move toward termination of its acute care hospital license. We expect to see the submission in the near future," Mr. O'Neill said.
