Major changes to the hospital’s billing system include redesigned billing statements, a new patient call center contract, installment of address verification technology, development of an online payment portal and extra financial counselors.
Additionally, the hospital deployed an out-of-pocket cost estimator to curb instances of surprise billing. Under the new billing system, the hospital will tell patients who call and schedule an appointment what their treatment will cost based on their insurance. The process will help patients get financial assistance earlier in the billing process, according to the report.
Updates to the billing system stem from patient feedback and forums, Independent Record reports.
