Through the merger, the organizations aim to create a comprehensive network across Staten Island. All services currently operated at both facilities will continue, according to RUMC and SIMHS. They said in an announcement that the initial agreement is the first-step toward a full merger expected over the next few months.

“We believe that this partnership will bring together two Staten Island institutions, with a combined 230 years of service to the borough, and create one strong and vibrant organization dedicated to meeting the health needs of the diverse Staten Island community,” Kathryn Rooney, RUMC board chair, and John Tapinis, SIMHS board chair, stated in the joint announcement.
