Below are three things to know about the rising costs in New York.
1. According to the consumer price index, medical expenses in the state of New York rose 1.4 percent in January. The CPI for medical costs rose 1.3 percent altogether between January 2015 and January 2016.
2. The CPI for food expenses rose 0.5 percent in January, the largest increase in over a year. The CPI for food away from home, such as dining at restaurants, rose 0.9 percent alone.
3. The CPI for rent in New York rose almost 4 percent in January.
