RCM tip of the day: Start from scratch or optimize an existing system?

Consider partnering with a consulting firm to determine whether your organization should acquire a new revenue cycle management system or optimize the existing system.

Jacqueline Luster, Senior Advisor at Impact Advisors: Should your organization purchase a new system or optimize an existing one? Many organizations ask this question. You should start by partnering with a consulting firm and spend time with staff at all levels (business analysts/supervisors/managers, instructional designers and business owners) to assess existing skill sets and knowledge. Second, have the firm provide recommendations based on the review of existing policies and procedures to ensure they support the current EMR system for the physicians and hospitals.
