RCM tip of the day: Perform root-cause analysis

Root-cause analysis can help healthcare providers identify key denials and claim edits issues.

Linda Perryclear, Director of Field Services, RCM Client Experience, Availity (Jacksonville, Fla.): Use root-cause analysis techniques on top 10 denials, as well as top 10 claim edit reasons. Eliminating root causes or placing edits in the host system to prevent claim edits or back-end denials will speed up the A/R cycle tremendously. This analysis should be done weekly — and at a minimum of monthly — to quickly address issues. Consider a deeper dive into the top 25 denials or claim edits.
