Texas cuts Planned Parenthood from Medicaid

Texas cut Medicaid funds to Planned Parenthood Monday in the wake of July's undercover videos discussing the sale of fetal organs with Planned Parenthood officials, according to ABC News.

A similar battle is playing out in Louisiana, according to the report, where Gov. Bobby Jindal cut Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood and a federal judge required funding to continue for at least 14 more days after the organization filed a lawsuit.

"It is completely outrageous that Texas officials are using these thoroughly discredited, fraudulent videos to cut women off from preventive healthcare, including cancer screenings, HIV testing, and birth control," Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a statement, according to the report.

Planned Parenthood has not filed a lawsuit in Texas. Ms. Laguens did note, however, courts ruled in Indiana and Arizona that federal law blocks states from cutting Medicaid funds to abortion providers, according to the report.
