HCA Florida Capital Hospital in Tallahassee plans to discontinue its level 2 neonatal intensive care unit services, effective Nov. 1.
Fewer babies born at the facility in recent years have required the specialized care its NICU provides, a hospital spokesperson said in an Aug. 28 statement shared with Becker’s. Labor and delivery services will remain open.
The hospital will also continue caring for patients who arrive requiring emergency care, including emergency deliveries. Families who need NICU services will have access to specialized neonatal support in the community, with hospital teams coordinating transfers when needed, the spokesperson said.
Some employees who directly support the NICU will be affected by the change. HCA Florida Capital Hospital said it is working with them to identify opportunities within the hospital or other locations across its network.
