Here are six things to know.

1. The MIPS payment system falls under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act’s Quality Payment Program.

2. The deadline for physicians participating in MIPS to submit their performance data was March 31. However, the deadline has been extended to April 3 at 8 p.m. EDT.

3. Participating physicians submit data for the following MIPS performance categories: quality, improvement activities, advancing care information and cost.

4. That data then determines a provider’s final score. CMS will then use the scores to determine a provider’s reimbursement for Medicare Part B claims in 2019.

5. The upcoming April 3 deadline is for 2017 performance year data covering Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2017.

6. Providers can submit performance data via this website.
