Numerous healthcare organizations recently received donations to fund research, advance treatments, improve patient care and start renovations.

Here are four recent donations, pledges or bequests given to healthcare organizations by various entities reported by Becker's Hospital Review in the past week, beginning with the most recent.

1. U of Arizona researcher receives $1.65M NIH grant to study neurotransmitters in brain injury
Theresa Currier Thomas, PhD, a researcher in the Department of Child Health at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, received a $1.65 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study how traumatic brain injury alters communication in the brain.

2. Meet the 1st UnitedHealthcare Professor of Healthcare Management
UnitedHealthcare, the insurance arm of UnitedHealth Group, endowed $2.5 million to the University of Michigan School of Public Health in Lansing to establish the UnitedHealthcare Professor of Healthcare Management.

3. Best Buy donates $20M to St. Jude Children's
Best Buy, after raising money through a 12-week fundraising campaign, donated more than $20 million to Memphis, Tenn.-based St. Jude Children's Hospital.

4. Mission Hospital to name cancer institute after donors of record-setting gift
Mission Viejo, Calif.-based Mission Hospital Foundation received the largest gift in its 23-year history from Judi and Bill Leonard March 21.
