Note: The expected primary payor bears the major financial responsibility for a hospital stay.

Medicare — 37 percent
Private insurance — 34 percent
Medicaid — 20 percent
Uninsured — 6 percent
Other — 3 percent

Note: Payors such as Workers’ Compensation, TRICARE, CHAMPUS, CHAMPVA, Title V and other government programs fall into the category of "other." Self-pay or no charge stays were included in the category of "uninsured."
