Pennsylvania hospital to suspend all services

Sharon (Pa.) Regional Medical Center has begun the process to suspend hospital services. Broader acute care and outpatient operations, and emergency department services will not be accessible to the public beginning Nov. 6 at 8 a.m., a spokesperson for the hospital said in a statement shared with Becker’s.

The suspension of services occurs as the hospital works to restructure and establish a more sustainable and cost-effective clinical footprint that is focused on services needed most by the community.

Should inpatient care be required, patients will be stabilized and transferred to appropriate facilities to receive continued treatment, the spokesperson said.

“We recognize the impact this transition will have on our patients and employees, and we remain committed to working toward a sustainable path forward for Sharon Regional so that we can continue to support the community,” the spokesperson said.

Sharon Regional paused inpatient services Oct. 29, but left its emergency department open to accept patients. The hospital also missed two consecutive pay cycles in October, but paid employees in early November.

Dallas-based Steward Health Care, which sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2024, initially closed Sharon Regional in January 2025. Pasadena, Calif.-based Tenor Health Foundation, a hospital turnaround company, acquired the hospital and reopened it as Sharon Regional Health System in late May 2025.
