Partners and NHP first announced their intent to merge in August 2011. The two organizations began the affiliation process in order to “address growing needs for care coordination and management, health equity and the ability to curb healthcare costs.”
The Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission decided to not review the case on antitrust purposes, and Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley also did not challenge the acquisition, according to the report.
NHP, a non-profit health insurer, covers more than 240,000 state residents, mostly low-income.
