Orlando (Fla.) Health is working with the city of Rockledge, Fla., to demolish Rockledge Hospital, which closed April 22, along with other “outparcels on the medical campus,” a spokesperson for the health system confirmed with Becker’s

“We hope to begin demolition of the main hospital by the end of 2025,” the spokesperson added.

The 289-bed hospital is one of three that Orlando Health acquired from Dallas-based Steward Health Care, which sought Chapter 11 protection in May 2024, for $439 million.

The October 2024 acquisition included Melbourne Regional Medical Center and Sebastian River Medical Center. Following an in-depth inspection of Rockledge Hospital, Orlando Health determined that costs to repair and renovate exceeded the costs of building a new hospital.

In mid-April 2025, Orlando Health also shared plans to spend more than $750 million to develop a new hospital, freestanding emergency departments and physician offices over the next four years.
