CMS said an ICD-10 project team should include senior management, health information management/coding, billing and finance, compliance, revenue cycle management and IT.
When the team is compiled, one person should serve as project manager. That project manager should make sure the following initial tasks are completed and communicate regularly with the entire ICD-10 project team.
1. Establish regular check-in meetings.
2. Conduct an ICD-10 impact assessment.
3. Plan a comprehensive and realistic budget.
4. Identify and ensure involvement and commitment of all internal and external stakeholders.
5. Develop and adhere to a well-defined implementation timeframe.
