The 60 contracts CMS entered into for the development and operation of the federal marketplace were originally valued at $1.7 billion, and CMS has already paid $500 million toward those contracts, according to a recent report from HHS' Office of the Inspector General.
The contracts ranged in value from $69,195 to over $200 million. For 7 of the contracts, the obligated amounts have already exceeded the expected value by more than 100 percent.
As of February, nearly $800 million had been obligated for the development and operation of the federal marketplace.
