Not-For-Profit Hospitals Pension Funding Plummeted According to Standard & Poor’s

Standard & Poor’s says pension-funding levels have dropped for many not-for-profit hospitals and health systems, according to a report from Healthcare Financial Management Association.

The S&P report, titled “Pension Funding Woes Escalate For U.S. Not-For-Profit Hospitals And Health Systems,” said median funding status for defined-benefit plans fell to 68.6 percent in fiscal year 2009 from 82.9 percent the year before.
