Kettering (Ohio) Health’s credit rating was upgraded to “A1” from “A2” by Moody’s.
The upgrade reflects the system’s continued strong liquidity and financial performance, which Moody’s said will support an expected increase in capital spending as well as upcoming federal Medicaid cuts.
Moody’s said in its April 7 report that Kettering Health has a strong market position and growing geographic footprint. Although the system was affected by a ransomware attack in 2025, Kettering Health benefitted meaningfully from an increase in Ohio’s directed payment program.
The nine-hospital system has a high share of government payers — more than 65% of gross revenue — and a material reliance on Medicaid funding relative to operating cash flow, Moody’s said. The system’s management, however, is engaging in several initiatives to strengthen core performance and reduce supplemental funding reliance ahead of potential federal cuts in 2028.
Kettering Health has a stable outlook at its new rating.
